I. BUILDING DATA
The building of the City Hall built between 1903-1905 is a neo-classical building which initially harbored the Financial Administration of the Caras-Severin County, then of the Severin county.
The neo-classical style is characterized mainly by a regress to Greek-Roman shapes.
It supposes the development of new principles quickly transformed in rigid rules: a clear exposure, a simple structure due to the order, symmetry, proportions.
It is a noble style characterized by order, reason, discipline, austerity, being at the same time an elevated, cult to distant, forced, academic style.
The building located in the center of the town Lugoj on the southern side of Piata Victoriei, while on the opposed side there is the Church Adormirea Maicii Domnului, a baroque monument built between 1759-1766.
During the 1989 Revolution the City Hall was set ablaze.
As a result in 1990 the entire building was subject to repair and painting works, the colors chosen then being preserved until the moment of fulfilling the renovation project of the entire facade begun in 2010 and finalized in 2012.
The building has a basement, a ground floor, and 2 stores.
It is built on continuous stone foundations, bearing masonry of brick, floors made of blocks of brick on metal rails, wooden roof framing, covered with scale shaped tiles.
Technical data:
Total built area: 3.816,10 m2
Surface of the facade: 2.545,00 m2
