Rehabilitation Project of the Zaratamo Town Hall
EXTERIOR FAÇADES
The exterior image of the new Zaratamo Town Hall reflects a restrained building that responds to the icon of a town hall that is both recognisable and accessible to the townsfolk.
It combines the introduction of materials close to the Basque Country’s constructive imagination with a contemporary architectonic language.
Ground floor
This maintains the original geometry of the doorway and the entire base is faced with Baztan limestone.
Central section
An enclosure with a 10-cm thick Baumit SATE insulation façade is incorporated, with a decorative Baumit Nanoportop finish.
Crest
The upper section is of heat-treated local pine wood that shapes a frieze of vertical slats that run along the complete building perimeter.
The seating, with its significant volume, which is clearly-visible from the town’s road access, demands intervention with harmonisation of the formal town hall language with the existing buildings and invites looking for subtleness in the proposed forms, colours and textures.
